Kottbusser Tor VR

Urban, social, and cultural dynamics experienced virtually.

Possibility space Kottbusser Tor VR

The project 'Possibility Space: Kotti' aims to create a digital twin of Kottbusser Tor to make urban, social, and cultural dynamics virtually experienceable. Based on a high-resolution 3D model, interactive VR scenarios are developed in collaboration with artists and technologists. These VR experiences will be made accessible to the public through mobile VR stations installed at various locations such as the Wilhelm-Liebknecht-Namik-Kemal Library and the Babylon Cinema in Berlin.

The project places great emphasis on participation, particularly from marginalized population groups, and promotes the digital sovereignty of the local community. Technically, the project is based on the use of Meta Quest 3 VR headsets, which are portable and easy to use. A web version of the VR experiences allows users to explore the virtual artworks through their browser, thereby creating broader accessibility.

Through the integration of VR and web technologies, an innovative approach to the hybrid use of digital and physical spaces is pursued. Accompanying evaluation modules monitor user behavior in the VR to continuously make improvements. Overall, the project creatively connects art, technology, and urban participation by opening up new forms of interaction and urban perception.
