Aktionslabor ZEIT
The Editorial Society
The Action Lab "Editorial Society", initiated by the Zeit-Stiftung Bucerius in cooperation with the Hamburg Public Libraries and funded by the Brost Foundation, is a mobile, interactive exhibition aimed at promoting media literacy. It is targeted at adults who have previously engaged little with misinformation and aims to sharpen awareness of how to handle information. Based on the media theory of Prof. Dr. Bernhard Pörksen, the lab seeks to promote reflective communication in society.
The exhibition includes several pillars and two digital games. The virtual reality game was created by Playersjourney and illustrates how headlines can be misleading. The virtual reality displays a view of an everyday 360-degree scene from a single perspective. During gameplay, various media with different viewpoints on the same topic can be discovered side by side. It quickly becomes clear: what matters is not the situation but the perspective, context, and framework in which something is communicated. Media mechanisms and potential manipulation or misinformation are consciously presented to the players and then deconstructed.
The Action Lab was first presented on May 3, 2024, the International Day for Freedom of the Press, at the Hamburg Central Library and is scheduled to be implemented during family days at the public libraries in summer 2024.
